“Statistics”: Automobile Import Expenditure Reaches $216.8 Million in January

Imports of finished private cars surged during January 2024, totaling $216.8 million, marking a substantial increase from $112.4 million in January 2023, a growth of 92.9%.

These imports, as per data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, were among the commodities experiencing notable growth in January 2024.

The monthly report by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics revealed a significant decline of 42.2% in the import of auto spare parts in January compared to the same period in 2023. The value dwindled to $34 million from $58.9 million in January 2023, representing a decrease of $24.9 million.

Overall Egyptian imports for January dropped, amounting to $5.54 billion, down from $7.42 billion in January 2023, marking a 25.3% decrease.

Imports of goods transport vehicles witnessed a decline of 25.6%, with imports worth $13.9 million in January compared to $18.7 million in January 2023, a decrease of $4.8 million.

The import of external tires and inner tubes for transportation recorded a substantial decrease of approximately 43.5%, totaling about $29.3 million compared to $51.9 million, a decline of $22.6 million.

On the other hand, imports of tractors as complete units saw an increase of about 15.1% in January, reaching $22 million compared to $18.2 million in January 2023.

Data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics showed that complete units of tractors were among the commodities with the highest increase during January 2024.
