Egypt’s car imports surged in April 2024, reaching $169.8 million, compared to $92.8 million in April 2023, marking an impressive 82.9% increase.
A monthly report from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics revealed a significant rise in imports of auto spare parts, which increased by 89.8% in April 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
The value of these imports amounted to $58.4 million, up from $30.7 million in April 2023.
Despite this growth in specific sectors, the agency reported a general decline in total Egyptian imports for April 2024, which fell to $5.97 billion from $6.01 billion in April 2023, representing a 0.7% decrease.
Detailed Breakdown of Import Changes
Goods Transport Vehicles
Imports of goods transport vehicles saw a 7.6% decline, with April 2024 recording imports worth $9.7 million, down from $10.5 million in April 2023, an $800,000 decrease.
External Tires and Inner Tubes
There was a significant 28% drop in imports of external tires and inner tubes for transportation, which fell to $35.6 million in April 2024 from $49.5 million in April 2023, a $13.9 million reduction.
Tractors (Complete Units)
On the other hand, imports of complete tractor units experienced a remarkable 121.7% increase in April 2024, reaching $20.4 million compared to $9.2 million in April 2023. This category topped the list of commodities with the highest increase for the month.
Buses, Microbuses, and Minibusses
Imports of complete buses, microbuses, and minibosses recorded “zero” in April 2024 due to disruptions in the import movement. This is a stark contrast to April 2023, when these imports were valued at $969,000.
