Port Tawfiq in Suez has seen the arrival of 7,500 cars from Gulf nations under the auspices of the Egyptians Abroad Cars Initiative.
With an average of 400 cars received each month since the initiative’s inception, there has been a marked increase in car imports, signaling the initiative’s success. This surge has been aided by reductions in customs duties.
Major General Mohamed Abdel Rahim, Chairman of the Red Sea Ports Authority, has been coordinating with port stakeholders, including customs, police, and passport officers. This collaboration, which also included Major General Osama Saleh, the Authority’s Vice President, aims to streamline the process for inbound cars and maximize the benefits of this initiative for Egyptians residing abroad.
Abdel Rahim emphasized the necessity of creating an efficient system that enables car owners to retrieve their vehicles promptly while ensuring their safety. This includes the provision of storage areas for cars, the enforcement of safety protocols, and designated lanes for ease of access.
Further safeguards have been put in place with police and civil protection for all storage yards to ensure car safety and facilitate the issuance of necessary permits for car receipt. Additionally, the Customs Authority has amplified its personnel numbers to expedite procedural completion and increase the daily volume of car releases.
