Nissan Tops Best-Selling Car Brands in the Past 7 Months; Chery-Ghabbour Ranks Second

In a recent review of car sales for the past seven months, Nissan, the Japanese automaker, led the charts in the local market. With 21.9% of market share, they achieved sales of 6.9 thousand units, marking a significant number compared to the previous year’s same duration.

A report from the Automotive Market Information Council (AMIC) unveiled a sharp 69% decrease in private car sales for 2023, translating to 31.8 thousand cars compared to 101.5 thousand during the previous year.

Notably, the “Chery-Ghabbour” brand secured the second position, boasting a 15.5% market share and sales equivalent to Nissan at 6.9 thousand cars. Renault followed in third place with over 3 thousand units sold, capturing 9.7% of the market. BYD ranked fourth, holding approximately 8.5% market share, selling 2.7 thousand vehicles. Toyota came fifth, securing a 6.7% market share with sales figures around 2.1 thousand cars.

In further rankings, MG brand claimed the sixth spot with 1.8 thousand car sales, marking a 5.7% market share. Hyundai stood at the seventh position with 1.7 thousand units and a 5.4% share, closely followed by Kia with similar numbers. The subsequent brands in the list were Mitsubishi in the ninth place, Opel in tenth, Citroen in eleventh, and Subaru at twelfth.

Adding to the report’s details, other car models witnessed sales of 2.1 thousand units, constituting 6.9% of the market share in the initial seven months of 2023.

In a related trend, locally assembled cars faced a significant sales dip by 49.1%. A total of 16.6 thousand cars were sold during the period, a drastic fall from 32.6 thousand cars during the same months in 2022. This data is based on AMIC’s monthly report.

Furthermore, imported car sales plunged by an alarming 77.9% this year. With only 15.2 thousand units sold, it starkly contrasts the previous year’s 68.9 thousand cars in the same timeframe.
