Nissan Outperforms Chery-Gabbour in Sales of Locally Assembled Cars

Sales of locally assembled cars have significantly decreased by around 48%, recording roughly 12,000 units sold in the first five months of this year. This is in contrast to approximately 23,200 cars sold in the corresponding period of 2022, as stated by the Automotive Market Information Council (AMIC).

Sales of both Imported and Locally Assembled Private Cars

Imported car sales have fallen by about 82.8%, reaching 9,800 cars during the same period, compared to around 57,000 cars sold during the corresponding period in 2022.

The Japanese brand “Nissan” took the top spot in the sales of locally assembled private cars on a monthly basis. It captured the largest portion of the sales volume, representing about 37% of the market with a total of 907 cars sold in May.

Chinese brand “Chery-Gabbour” moved to second place after increasing its market share to 34%, marking the sale of approximately 817 cars. The brand “BYD” ranked third with a market share of about 20%, and a total of 475 cars sold.

“Hyundai” ascended to fourth place with a market share of around 5%, recording the sale of approximately 130 cars. “Toyota” slid to fifth place with a market share of about 3% and a total of 84 cars sold.

On the other hand, the “Jeep” brand secured the sixth position, with a market share of about 1%, and a total of 15 cars sold. The “Chevrolet” brand followed in seventh place, with a negligible market share, recording only one car sold.

“Lada” held eighth place, with zero sales, according to the list of locally assembled private car sales in Egypt during May.

Renault was as Best-selling Imported Car in May

The Renault brand emerged as the top-selling imported private passenger car in May. It secured the largest share of sales in the Egyptian market, with a market share of approximately 36.6% and a total of 1,200 car sales, according to AMIC’s monthly report.

The “Kia” brand came second with a market share of 11% after selling 361 cars. “MG” followed in third place with a market share of 9.7%, recording total sales of around 319 cars.

“Toyota” landed in fourth place with a market share of 9%, selling 294 cars, followed by “Mitsubishi” in fifth place, with a market share of 6.7% and sales of 220 cars.

The “Opel” brand was in sixth place, with a market share of about 4.9% and total sales of 162 cars. The “Subaru” brand ranked seventh with a market share of around 3% and 97 cars sold.

“Suzuki” held the eighth spot with a market share of 2.7%, with 88 cars sold. “Nissan” was ninth with a 2.3% market share and 76 cars sold.

“Fiat” came tenth with a market share of 2.2% and 71 cars sold. “Citroen” was eleventh with around 2.1% market share and 70 cars sold.

“Chevrolet” ranked twelfth with a market share of 2%, with 66 cars sold, followed by “Honda” in thirteenth place, with a market share of about 1.8% and 60 cars sold.

The remaining brands captured a market share of 5.9%, totaling 192 car sales out of all the private cars imported to Egypt during that period.
