Imported Bus Sales Plunged 68.8% Over Six Months, With Suzuki Leading the Market

The Automotive Market Information Council (AMIC) has reported a significant 68.8% drop in imported bus sales during the first half of this year, with only 960 units sold compared to 3,000 units during the same period in 2022.

Simultaneously, sales of locally assembled buses fell by 46.4%, from 5,900 to 3,000 buses, in comparison to the same period last year.

The Suzuki brand dominated the bus market in the first half of the year, accounting for approximately 32.6% of total bus sales, which equates to about 1,200 units sold. Toyota took the second spot with a market share of around 23.2%, selling 925 vehicles, while Chevrolet came in third, capturing 18.4% of the market and selling approximately 732 buses.

Other notable market participants included the King Long brand, which claimed fourth place with a market share of about 11.7% and 467 units sold, and the Golden Dragon brand, which ranked fifth with a market share of around 4.1% and 165 units sold.

The Foton brand took sixth place with a 3.7% market share and 149 vehicles sold. The MCV/Mercedes brand climbed to seventh place, holding a 2.8% market share and recording sales of approximately 113 units.

Meanwhile, the Mitsubishi brand fell to the eighth position with a 2% market share and 79 units sold. The Hyundai and Volvo brands closed out the top ten, with Hyundai in ninth place with 27 units sold, and Volvo in tenth with 23 units sold.

The overall sales of buses dropped to 3,900 units, a 56% decrease from the 9,000 buses sold in 2022. Additionally, the car market experienced a substantial decline during the first half of the year, with sales plummeting by 69.88% to around 36,800 units, compared to 122,300 units in the same period of the previous year. Truck sales also saw a decline, dropping 71% to approximately 5,900 units.
