Egypt’s Auto Imports: October 2024 Report

Egypt’s imports of private cars experienced a significant decline for the fifth consecutive month in October 2024, dropping by 46.8% year-on-year.

This downturn follows a period of consistent growth lasting about seven months, starting from the end of 2023.

Decline in Private Car Imports

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) revealed in its latest report that private car imports fell to $147.4 million in October 2024, compared to $277 million during the same month in 2023.

This represents a sharp decrease of $129.6 million, positioning private car imports among the lowest-ranking commodities on Egypt’s October import list.

Growth in Auto Spare Parts

Conversely, the auto spare parts sector saw an 11.7% growth, reaching $58.2 million in October 2024 compared to $52.1 million in the same month of the previous year.

This reflects an increase of $6.1 million, highlighting resilience in the spare parts market despite the downturn in finished car imports.egypt-auto-imports-october-2024

  • Finished Tractors: This sector experienced exceptional growth of 211%, with imports totaling $55.7 million in October 2024, up from $17.9 million in October 2023—a significant increase of $37.8 million, placing it among the highest growth commodities for the month.

Decline in Bus and Microbus Imports

In contrast, imports of finished buses, microbuses, and minibuses plummeted by 78%, dropping to $6.8 million in October 2024, compared to $30.9 million in the same period of 2023—a decrease of $24.1 million.

Summary

The latest data reflects a mixed performance across Egypt’s auto import sectors.

While private car imports continue to face significant challenges, the auto spare parts, goods transport vehicles, and tractor sectors demonstrate notable resilience and growth.

This divergence highlights evolving market dynamics and shifting import priorities within the automotive industry.
