“Car Licensing Trends in Egypt: Insights from December 2024”
In December of the past year, approximately 34.9 thousand cars were licensed in Egypt. The Egyptian Compulsory Insurance Association provided this estimate, focusing on new cars that were compulsorily insured and licensed during that period.
According to a report by the Egyptian Insurance Association, the total number of vehicles covered by insurance policies during this time included around:
- 2.7 thousand vehicles from the 2020 model
- About 4.6 thousand vehicles from the 2021 model
- 8.4 thousand vehicles from the 2022 model
- 8.9 thousand vehicles from the 2023 model
- 10.2 thousand vehicles from the 2024 model.
The Chevrolet brand maintained its leading position, concluding the year with 1,207 cars in the overall ranking of compulsorily insured vehicles.
Mercedes secured the second spot with approximately 965 cars,
followed by Kia with 906 cars,
Hyundai with around 831 cars,
and MG with about 834 cars.
Other brands in the top ten include Chery,
Toyota,
Nissan,
Suzuki,
and Skoda.
Mercedes claimed the top spot in licensing private cars during December 2023.
The report highlighted about 10.7 thousand zero-owner cars that were issued insurance documents and licensed, featuring 321 cars from the 2020 model, 228 cars from the 2021 model, 672 cars from the 2022 model, 2.6 thousand cars from the 2023 model, and 6.7 thousand cars from the 2024 model.
In the private car licensing category, Mercedes took the lead with about 913 cars, followed by Kia with 906 cars, MG with 829 cars, Chery with 828 cars, and Hyundai with 826 cars.
Concerning motorcycles, the report revealed a total of 21.4 thousand motorcycles issued and licensed, including 2,291 from the 2020 model, 4,290 from the 2021 model, 7,102 from the 2022 model, 5,547 motorcycles from the 2023 model, and 2,204 from the 2024 model.
For transport vehicles, the count reached 1,683, encompassing 55 transport vehicles from the 2020 model, 90 from the 2021 model, 400 from the 2022 model, 308 transport vehicles from the 2023 model, and 830 cars from the 2024 model.
