For the fourth consecutive month, Egypt’s private car sales surged, hitting approximately 8.3 thousand cars in December 2023, marking a remarkable 51.6% growth compared to December 2022, as reported by the Automotive Market Information Council (AMIC).
However, throughout 2023, the report indicated a decline of 48% in private car sales, totaling 69.1 thousand cars, compared to 133.8 thousand cars in the same period in 2022.
The overall car sales estimate for Egypt in 2023 stands at approximately 90.3 thousand cars, reflecting a significant decrease from the 184.7 thousand cars sold during the same period in 2022, showcasing a decline of about 51.1%.
Bus sales also experienced a decline, reaching 8.4 thousand buses in 2023 compared to 15.9 thousand buses in the same period in 2022, indicating a decrease of 51.2%. Truck sales recorded a notable decline as well, with over 12.7 thousand trucks sold compared to 33.5 thousand units in the comparative period, reflecting a decrease of 62%.
Top Players in the Market: Nissan Leads, Chery Ghabbour Claims Second Place in 2023
The Japanese brand “Nissan” emerged as the top-selling brand in the automobile market during 2023, having sold more than 13.6 thousand cars, securing a market share of 15.1%.
Following closely, the “Chery – Ghabbour” brand secured the second position, capturing a market share of 11.3%, with a total of 10.2 thousand car sales. The Chinese brand “Chevrolet” claimed the third spot with an 11.2% share, boasting sales exceeding 10 thousand cars.
Maintaining its fourth position, the “Toyota” brand achieved a market share of 8.3%, selling more than 7.5 thousand cars. The “MG” brand rose to fifth place with a 6.3% share and sales exceeding 5.6 thousand cars.
The “Suzuki” brand claimed the sixth position with a market share of 6.1%, recording 5.5 thousand cars sold. However, the “Hyundai” brand fell to the seventh place with a market share of about 6%, totaling about 5.4 thousand cars.
Securing the eighth position, the “Kia” brand acquired a 5.2% market share, recording the sale of about 4.7 thousand cars. “Renault” followed in ninth place with a 4.6% share, with a total of 4.1 thousand cars.
The “BYD” brand claimed the tenth spot with a market share of 4.4%, with a total of 3.9 thousand cars sold. The “Citroen” brand secured eleventh place with a 3% share, selling approximately 2.7 thousand cars, and the “Mitsubishi” brand ranked twelfth with a market share of 2.9%, recording 2.6 thousand cars sold.
Other brands collectively accounted for 15.5%, with total sales exceeding 14,000 cars during 2023.
On a monthly basis, car market sales surged to 10.4 thousand cars in December 2023, marking a 31.7% increase compared to December 2022, which saw sales of approximately 7.9 thousand cars.
