AMEC Report: 23.5 Thousand Cars Sold in Egyptian Automotive Market During Q1 2024
Egyptian Automotive Market Information Council (AMEC) report reveals a significant surge in car sales during the initial four months of 2024.
Sales of “private” passenger cars witnessed an impressive 11% increase, totaling 17.9 thousand cars, compared to about 16.1 thousand in the same period last year.
The Egyptian automotive market experienced a notable 18.4% upswing in overall car sales, reaching approximately 23.5 thousand cars in Q1 2024, compared to over 23.1 thousand in the corresponding period of 2023.
However, truck sales across various categories dipped by 16%, recording 3.6 thousand trucks versus 4.3 thousand in the prior year.
Similarly, “bus” sales plummeted by approximately 28.7% to 1.8 thousand buses, down from about 2.6 thousand buses in the comparative period.
Japanese automaker “Nissan” claimed the top spot in car market sales, capturing 15.9% market share by selling 3.7 thousand cars in the first four months of 2024.
Following closely, the “Toyota” brand secured second place with a market share of 14.6%, selling 3.4 thousand cars, while “Chevrolet” slid to third place, selling 3.2 thousand cars with a market share of 13.9%.
“Chery-Ghabbour” clinched fourth place with an approximate 11.5% market share, selling 2.6 thousand cars,
trailing the “Hyundai” brand in fifth place with a market share of around 9.8%, selling approximately 2.2 thousand cars.
Kia surged to sixth place in the list of top-selling brands in the automobile market during Q1 2024, boasting a market share of 5.7% and selling about 1.3 thousand cars.
The “MG” brand dropped to seventh place, with sales of 1.3 thousand cars and a market share of 5.7%, while the “Suzuki” brand occupied eighth place, recording sales of over a thousand cars and a market share of 4.5%.
“BYD” ascended to ninth place, selling a total of 814 cars with a market share of 3.5%, while the “Mitsubishi” brand fell to tenth place with sales of 711 cars and a 3% market share.
“Geely Abu Ghali” dominated eleventh place with sales of 463 cars and a market share of 2%, and the “Renault” brand descended to twelfth place after selling 272 cars with a market share of 1.2%.
Other models collectively accounted for over two thousand cars sold, comprising approximately 8.8% market share in the automotive market during Q1 2024.
According to the LAMEC report, April alone witnessed the sale of 5.6 thousand cars, marking an 11% increase compared to April 2023, which saw the sale of about 5.1 thousand cars.
