Nissan Leads Local Car Sales in First 7 Months of 2024

In the first seven months of 2024, the Japanese brand Nissan has emerged as the leader in the locally assembled car market.

With a commanding 36.1% market share, Nissan sold a total of 7,400 vehicles, solidifying its top position.

Sales of locally assembled cars saw a significant increase of 24.4%, reaching approximately 20,600 units compared to around 16,600 units during the same period in 2023.

This data comes from the latest monthly report by the Automotive Market Information Council (AMIC).

In contrast, sales of imported cars also rose, by 20.6%, totaling 18,300 vehicles in the first seven months of 2024, up from about 15,100 in the same period last year.

The Chinese brand Chery – Ghabbour secured the second position with a market share of 26.2%, selling 5,400 cars. Hyundai followed in third place with a 25.2% market share, selling 5,200 vehicles.

BYD took fourth place with a 10.9% market share, having sold 2,200 cars. Toyota, despite being in fifth place with a 1.5% market share, sold 315 vehicles.

For imported passenger cars, Toyota led with an 18.8% market share and sales of 3,400 units, according to AMEC’s monthly report.

MG climbed to second place with a 16.2% market share and 2,900 cars sold. Kia fell to third place with a 14.8% market share, selling 2,700 cars.

Suzuki ranked fourth with a 7.6% market share and sales of 1,300 cars, while Geely – Abu Ghali came in fifth with a 5.7% market share and over 1,000 cars sold.

Renault occupied the sixth position with a 5.5% market share, selling 999 cars. Mitsubishi was seventh with a 4.4% market share and 811 cars sold.

Nissan ranked eighth in imported car sales with a 3.7% market share and 676 units sold, followed by Opel in ninth place with a 3.6% market share and 651 cars sold.

Peugeot was tenth with a 3.5% market share and 636 cars sold, while Citroen was eleventh with a 2.8% market share and 512 cars sold.

Changan held twelfth place with a 2.3% market share and 421 cars sold. Other brands collectively held an 11.2% market share with total sales of 2,100 vehicles.
