Chevrolet Dominates Truck Sales in First 7 Months of 2023 Amidst Market Decline

Chevrolet has emerged as a market leader in truck sales for the first seven months of 2023, securing an impressive 65% market share with sales of 4.4 thousand units. This achievement stands out even more amidst the industry’s challenging backdrop, where the sales of locally assembled trucks plummeted by 74.5%.

During this period, only 5.1 thousand locally assembled trucks were sold, a sharp drop from 20.3 thousand the previous year. Furthermore, imported trucks didn’t fare much better, with sales falling by 43.7% to 1.6 thousand, compared to 2.8 thousand in the same period last year.

The Automotive Market Information Council (AMIC) report further shed light on the performance of other brands. Toyota clinched second place, capturing 12.2% of the market and selling 828 units. Suzuki followed closely in third place with a 6.9% market share, translating to 467 units sold.

GMC, despite experiencing a slide to fourth place, managed to secure a 6.7% market share with 456 sales. Mitsubishi took fifth place, boasting a 3.6% market share and 245 sales.

MCV/Mercedes and Fiat settled in sixth and seventh places with sales of 146 and 72 units respectively. Hyundai, in eighth place, managed to sell 51 trucks. Volvo and Shacman rounded out the top ten, with sales of 26 and 20 trucks, respectively.

Overall, the truck industry has faced a significant downturn, with total sales plunging by 71% to 6.7 thousand units over the past seven months, compared to a robust 23.2 thousand units during the same period in the previous year.
