67% Drop in Imported Bus Sales Over 7 Months: Suzuki Leads the Market
The Automotive Market Information Council (AMIC) recently disclosed a significant 67% drop in the sales of imported buses during the initial 7 months of this year. In comparison to the same period in 2022, only 1.1 buses were sold against a previous 3.4 thousand.
Furthermore, the market for locally assembled buses has also taken a hit, showing a 50.7% decline. This translates to sales figures of around 3.4 thousand buses compared to 6.9 thousand during the corresponding months of the previous year.
Breaking down the sales by brand:
- Suzuki leads the market, accounting for a hefty 32.5% of bus sales, translating to approximately 1.4 thousand vehicles.
- Toyota secured the second spot with a 24% market share, boasting sales of just over a thousand vehicles.
- Chevrolet occupies the third position with a market share of 17.9%, representing around 816 vehicles sold.
- King Long trails in fourth with a 10.9% share, reflecting about 495 sales.
- Golden Dragon and Foton came in fifth and sixth, selling 176 and 172 vehicles respectively.
- Mitsubishi made a notable climb to the seventh spot, selling approximately 132 vehicles, while MCV/Mercedes slipped to eighth with 121 sales.
- Hyundai and Volvo rounded off the top ten with 39 and 27 sales respectively.
On a broader scale, total bus sales plummeted to 4.5 thousand from 10.3 thousand in 2022, marking a significant 56.1% decrease year-on-year.
