4.6% Increase in Sales of Locally Assembled Trucks in First 8 Months
In the first eight months of 2024, truck sales locally assembled grew by 4.6%, reaching 6,500 units compared to 6,200 during the same period in 2023, as per the latest monthly report by the Automotive Market Information Council (AMIC).
Conversely, sales of imported trucks saw a significant drop, decreasing by 34.6% to 1,200 units, down from 1,800 units in the comparable period.
Chevrolet emerged as the market leader, capturing a 74.8% share with 5,600 trucks sold in the first eight months of 2024. Toyota ranked second with an 11.2% market share, recording 864 truck sales.
Mitsubishi followed in third place with a 5.9% market share and 459 units sold. GMC took the fourth position with a 4.7% share and 364 units sold, while MCV/Mercedes secured fifth place with a 3.5% market share and 272 trucks sold.
Hyundai rose to sixth place by selling 51 trucks, narrowly surpassing its seventh-place position last year, where it sold 50 trucks.
Volvo ranked eighth in Egypt’s truck market with 26 trucks sold, while Shacman closed out the top nine with 10 units sold.
The AMIC report highlighted an overall contraction in Egypt’s truck market, with total sales down by 16.3% in the first eight months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. A total of 1,000 units were sold, down from approximately 1,300 in the prior year.
